How LoJack Recovers Your Stolen Vehicle

A LoJack system consists of two radio frequency devices, a transceiver and a receiver. The transceiver is hidden somewhere in one of up to twenty different locations on your vehicle. The receiver is located inside the local authority’s vehicles and air units. Using the cars vehicle identification number, or VIN, a unique code is generated by the LoJack system and is specific to that particular car. When a LoJack customer’s vehicle is stolen and they report it to the police, the police enter the code into the LoJack database computer that then activates the transceiver, enabling the radio frequency alarm and transmitting back to the receiver device. The FCC given frequency signal is capable of being detected through concrete barriers such as walls, ceilings, and shelters such as parking garages and does not depend on unobstructed line of site view like GPS satellites and GPS tracking antennas.

  • LoJack transceiver unit is hidden inside your vehicle by a certified professional and is registered in the LoJack database.
  • When your car is stolen and you report to the authorities, the police activate the LoJack device and then makes contact with LoJack for further assistance and begins transmitting radio signals from towers to the hidden unit inside the vehicle.
  • The LoJack device begins transmitting the unique signal directly back to the police.
  • The police begin to track the signal and many times within hours recover the vehicle and possibly even the thieves.
